The birthday party

It’s 3 pm on Saturday. Casey’s mum is working in a shop in town, and she’s very busy. Casey, Muriel and Casey’s dad are busy too. They’re putting the food and drinks, plates and glasses for Casey’s party on the table in the dining room. Casey’s dad is looking at some CDs for the party. Now it’s 4 pm and the guests are arriving. Casey is opening his presents: books, CDs and sweets. An hour later, at 5 pm, some guests are dancing, some guests are eating and drinking, and some are sitting on the sofa. Casey can hear the doorbell – who’s that?

„Grandma! Grandpa! What are you doing here? We’re having a birthday party!”

„Great! Happy birthday, Casey! Here’s your present – a pair of socks.” Casey isn’t happy. Grandma and Grandpa are here, and the socks are boring. Is this the end of the party?

At 6 pm everybody is saying “This is a great party, Casey!” Casey is very happy. Casey’s grandpa and grandma are doing the Hokey Cokey with the guests: They’re happy too, but they’re not singing or dancing: Grandpa is taking the empty plates and glasses to the kitchen. Casey and Josefine are helping him, and Casey’s dad is sitting on the sofa. Half an hour later, at 7.30 pm, Casey’s mum comes home; she’s not happy because she’s thinking of the mess, the music and all the children… but she can’t see any mess, and she can’t hear any music or any children so where’s the party?

In the clean living room Casey, Casey’s dad, Grandma and Grandpa are sitting on the sofa and on the table there’s some birthday cake and a nice cup of coffee for Casey’s mum.
